Bins and the Bin Storage Area

General Waste

The general waste bins are located on the right as you enter the bin storage area. They are all fitted with a large, heavy duty bag to help keep them clean and avoid us having to pay to have the bins cleaned. The bags have to be replaced from time to time. If anyone feels sufficiently community minded to volunteer helping to change them, please get in touch using the contact form. Please get in touch if you're interested!

  • All waste must be bagged and all bags must be tied
  • Food waste in particular must be sealed in a bag that will prevent any leakage
  • Large items must not be placed in the bins or left in the bin storage area.
  • The nearest recycling centre is at Weaving Lane, Dewsbury, WF12 9QR. You can apply for a permit at www.Kirklees.gov.uk
  • A bulky waste collection can be requested by calling Kirklees Direct on 01484 414700 or visit the Kirklees Council website to arrange a collection online.

Recycling

The recycling bins are located on the left as you enter the bin storage area.

Not everything that you may be expecting to recycle can be placed in these bins. The restrictions and requirements are:

Items NOT Allowed in Recycling Bins:
  • No plastic bags and nothing in plastic bags.
  • No glass.
  • No polystyrene packaging
  • No cling film or plastic shrink wrap
  • No food waste.
  • No household items - see details below.
  • No electrical items.
  • No shredded paper.
  • No batteries.
Requirements for Recyclable Items:
  • Cardboard boxes must be flattened down.
  • Plastic food containers must be clean and empty.
  • Metal food tins must be clean and empty
  • Household items that must not be recycled include clothes, shoes, pillows, textiles, nappies.
  • If you wish to recycle glass, the nearest bottle bank can be found in the car park behind the library in Mirfield, next to the Co-Op.
